AWS has instructed clients to permanently abandon Middle East cloud resources following Iranian drone strikes that damaged facilities in Bahrain and the UAE, with no restoration timeline provided.

Exposes critical single-point-of-failure vulnerabilities in MENA cloud regions, forcing hyperscalers to rapidly redesign redundancy architectures and reassess geopolitical risk modeling for future deployments.

More than six months after drone attacks targeted Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain, the cloud provider has instructed customers to migrate their data to facilities in other regions. According to The Wall Street Journal, AWS has acknowledged that clients must relocate to data centers outside the affected areas.

While AWS continues repair operations on the damaged sites, it has not provided a timeline for when either facility will return to operation. Both data centers were targeted by the Islamic Republic of Iran following U.S. and Israeli strikes against the country in February of this year. Several months later, the Bahraini site was struck by cruise missiles, with Iranian state media claiming the facility had been “destroyed.”
