IP Infusion announces OcNOS support for Broadcom's Qumran3 networking family at SCTE TechExpo, targeting AI data center fabric economics.
IP Infusion announced plans to extend its OcNOS network operating system to support open platforms based on the Broadcom Qumran3 family. Adding to more than 50 open hardware platforms already supported, the Qumran3 family enables fiber, cable, and mobile operators to deploy a unified network operating environment across Access, Aggregation, Transport, and Core Network domains, simplifying operations and reducing operational costs.
Service providers face mounting capacity pressures from enterprise AI on-ramps, cloud connectivity, Data Center Interconnect, and accelerating broadband access speeds enabled by XGS-PON, 50G-PON, DOCSIS 4.0, and 5G. They must expand capacity without adding complexity while operating within tight power and physical space constraints.
Traditional network upgrades involve deploying specialized equipment overlays with diverse management and automation frameworks—a costly approach that increases operational complexity and strains limited power and rack-space budgets. OcNOS on Qumran3 platforms addresses these challenges through a single network operating system deployable across all network domains. The solution supports hardware configurations from multiple open networking vendors, including UfiSpace and Edgecore Networks, while allowing service providers to standardize optical components and management frameworks uniformly across their networks.
OcNOS on Qumran3-based platforms enables three scaling approaches:
**Access and Aggregation**: OcNOS provides comprehensive service and transport support functions at the network edge, including MEF 3.0 certified E-Line and E-LAN services, hierarchical QoS, G.8275.1 timing, and SR-MPLS. Compact Qumran3U and Qumran3A platforms enable service providers to aggregate access and mobile traffic with high port density and switching capacity in small form factors. Key attributes include high-speed Ethernet connectivity, deep buffering, SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 timing, and hardware-accelerated MACsec and IPSec on every port.
**Core and Provider Edge**: The Qumran3D delivers up to 25.6 Tb/s of switching capacity per device on a single 5nm chip, with Ethernet port rates from 100 Gb/s to 800 Gb/s, massive on-chip forwarding databases, and native line-rate MACsec encryption on all ports. This architecture supports high-density aggregation, provider edge, core, peering, and Data Center Interconnect deployments. The resulting system density allows operators to consolidate network capacity into fewer systems while reducing rack space, power consumption, and physical interconnects.
**Site Interconnect**: OcNOS integrates management and telemetry capabilities for coherent optics, enabling operators to monitor performance and integrate optical information into existing network operations, eliminating the need for dedicated optical transport equipment. Qumran3D platforms extend these capabilities with support for 800ZR+ coherent optics, ideal for Data Center Interconnect and IPoDWDM Transport solutions.
