Nvidia Corp. is reportedly engaged in early-stage discussions with South Korean artificial intelligence chip designer Rebellions regarding potential collaborations. According to sources familiar with the matter, the talks encompass a range of possibilities, from a strategic technical partnership and investment to a possible acquisition.

The dialogue follows a high-level meeting between Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang and Rebellions co-founder and CEO Sunghyun Park at the company’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The encounter underscores Huang’s ongoing strategy of pursuing aggressive investments and talent acquisitions to sustain Nvidia’s dominance within the artificial intelligence hardware ecosystem.

Founded in 2020 during the pandemic, the Bundang-based startup has successfully secured approximately $850 million from prominent investors, including SK Hynix Inc., Samsung Ventures, and Arm Holdings Plc, alongside direct financial backing from the South Korean government. These capital commitments have propelled Rebellions to a valuation of roughly $2.3 billion.

Rebellions specializes in designing neural processing units specifically engineered for data center AI inference. While AI training requires immense computational power to develop models, inference represents the larger-in-volume workload necessary to deploy and operate AI services at scale.

Although the discussions remain preliminary and may not culminate in a finalized agreement, any potential transaction would navigate complex regulatory waters. Nvidia’s dominant market position already attracts close oversight from antitrust authorities such as the U.S. Department of Justice. Additionally, South Korea classifies advanced semiconductors as critical national assets, meaning domestic regulators would closely monitor any acquisition-style arrangement involving homegrown chip designers.
