Morphotonics raises €40 million to expand data-center optical-component manufacturing, repurposing its display-fabrication technology for 400G+ interconnect optics.

Addresses optical-interconnect supply bottleneck in high-density GPU clusters; European manufacturing capacity reduces dependency on Asian suppliers and supports in-region data-center connectivity for latency-sensitive AI workloads.

Dutch nanoimprint lithography startup Morphotonics has closed a Series B financing round exceeding €40 million ($46 million), with participation from existing investors 3M Ventures, Innovation Industries, and BOM, alongside new backers Invest-NL, the European Innovation Council Fund, Ernij Next, and the European Investment Bank.

Founded in 2014 and based in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, Morphotonics develops large-area nanoimprint lithography platforms—a manufacturing process that presses microscopic patterns into a liquid resin coating using a mould, then sets them with UV light. The technology enables manufacturers to reproduce patterns with high precision across large surfaces, allowing higher-volume production at lower costs than traditional methods.

The company has primarily served the AR glasses display market, but will now use the new capital to enter optical component manufacturing for data centers. "Breakthroughs in photonics and optical systems will be critical enablers for applications ranging from consumer AI devices to next-generation computing architectures, including emerging paradigms such as co-packaged optics," Morphotonics said in a statement.

The funding will expand the company's engineering, commercial, and customer support teams; strengthen supplier and manufacturing networks; and increase production capacity for its Cypris platform—a fully automated, modular manufacturing system designed to mass-produce high-performance optical waveguides.

Johan Stins, senior investment manager at Invest-NL, said: "Morphotonics is addressing a clear industrial challenge: how to manufacture increasingly complex optical components at the scale and cost required by consumer markets. The company has made significant progress in a short time, and this investment will support its move from technology development into broader industrial deployment."
