Alphabet is executing a $250 billion capital expenditure offloading strategy to fund massive AI infrastructure scaling.
I last covered Alphabet Inc. (GOOG/GOOGL) on July 8, 2026, and since then, the company’s second-quarter results have been widely analyzed. While the market reacted to the earnings report with mixed feelings, the underlying investment thesis has evolved significantly. My rating remains Strong Buy, but the focus has shifted toward Alphabet’s innovative approach to off-balance-sheet AI infrastructure funding.
Alphabet’s cloud division delivered exceptional growth during the quarter. Cloud margins expanded to 35.6%, driven by an 82% surge in cloud revenue. Operating income tripled, effectively defying prior concerns regarding a potential margin squeeze. These results underscore the scalability and profitability of Alphabet’s expanding cloud operations.
Central to Alphabet’s current strategy is a $250 billion capital expenditure offload plan executed through joint ventures. By partnering with Blackstone, Apollo, and Broadcom, Alphabet has structured TPU-focused joint ventures that enable massive AI hardware expansion without burdening its own balance sheet. This model allows the company to scale critical AI infrastructure while preserving financial flexibility.
Recent capital raises and the issuance of new preferred stock have introduced some dilution and carry a 6.25% dividend. However, Alphabet’s robust cash position and its strategic use of joint ventures effectively mitigate long-term financial risk. The company continues to maintain a strong liquidity buffer while leveraging external capital to fund next-generation AI capabilities.
The market read the results with mixed feelings, but not for the reason. As Alphabet continues to execute its off-balance-sheet infrastructure strategy, the focus will remain on how these partnerships translate into sustained competitive advantage and margin expansion across its core businesses.
