Intel의 Ohio One 부지에서 첫 번째 주요 구조 트러스가 설치되었으며, ServeTheHome은 Arizona Fab 62에서도 장비 설치 작업이 진행 중이라고 보도했다.

Ohio One

Intel has reached a visible construction milestone at its Ohio One site in New Albany, Ohio, with the installation of the first major structural truss for the company's first fab on the campus. Coincidentally, the site is about 30 minutes from where the recent Patrick and Jeff Geerling event at Micro Center in Columbus, Ohio took place. We saw this photo as part of an Intel release about construction and tool installation in Arizona for Fab 62, along with the company's commitment to US manufacturing at other sites, including Oregon and New Mexico. It seemed interesting enough that we decided to cover it separately, since we had not yet reported on the truss installation.

**Intel's Ohio One US Manufacturing Push**

The Ohio One project was announced in January 2022, with Intel saying production would start in 2025. The 1,000-acre site east of Columbus was part of a broader plan to expand domestic manufacturing capacity, using state and federal funding alongside Intel's capital investment.

Intel's US expansion received significant federal backing through the CHIPS Act. In March 2024, Intel and the White House announced a preliminary memorandum of terms for up to $8.5 billion in direct funding, along with investment tax credits and low-interest loans, to support fab construction across Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, and Oregon. Intel and the White House said the funding was expected to create around 10,000 Intel jobs and another 20,000 in the construction sector.

**Intel's Fab 62 in Arizona**

Intel continues construction on its sixth high-volume manufacturing facility, Fab 62, in Arizona, near STH. Like Ohio One, the site represents a long-term bet on US-based leading-edge production. Intel says Fab 62 is still under construction, but tool installation has begun.

Intel Foundry's broader strategy has evolved since those early announcements. In September 2024, Intel restructured its foundry business into an independent subsidiary and announced a multi-year deal with AWS to produce custom chips on Intel 18A. The company also paused projects in Poland and Germany by approximately two years, citing market demand, while reaffirming its commitment to US sites, including Ohio. That pause was due to a capital crunch, but demand for semiconductors on leading process nodes is clearly very healthy these days.

Construction timelines have shifted since the initial announcement. In a February 2025 report to the Ohio Department of Development, Intel stated it was adjusting its anticipated schedule for the two Ohio fabs. The company projected completing construction of the first fab in 2030 and beginning operations in 2030–2031, with the second fab expected to complete construction in 2031 and begin operations in 2032.

**Final Words**

The truss installation at Ohio One shows that Intel's US manufacturing expansion remains active despite financial pressures and strategic pivots. For readers tracking the foundry business, this is still early days. The company needs to complete the shells, install and calibrate equipment, and start running wafers, all of which are non-trivial steps. Still, it is at least some progress on the Ohio campus. Tool installation and progress in Arizona are also a good sign, since they mean Intel will hopefully bring more wafer volume online when it plans to begin operations by the end of 2028. New Mexico packaging is seen as a big growth driver for Foundry, and Oregon is getting the research investment. Even in Santa Clara, California, Intel recently broke ground on a mask manufacturing facility. Intel has a lot going on on the Foundry side. Now let us see if it can build fabs that customers fill fast enough.
