OpenAI CEO Altman이 SpaceX의 Musk가 투자자들에게 '단기 우주 데이터센터' 개념을 홍보하고 궤도 인프라의 AI 적용 불가능성을 주장하고 있다고 지적했다.

The rift between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SpaceXAI head Elon Musk continues to widen. Altman has accused Musk of misleading public investors regarding the company’s planned space-based data centers, following Musk’s assertion that Altman “takes scamming to a whole new level.”

The two billionaires have traded barbs and filed lawsuits since their fallout shortly after OpenAI’s founding. Musk was among the organization’s co-founders and helped fund it while it operated as a non-profit. He departed when OpenAI pivoted to a for-profit model, a shift he characterized alongside its Microsoft investments as a scam—despite revelations that he had pushed for such a commercial transition, albeit as part of Tesla.

Musk later launched his own rival generative AI business, xAI, which was folded into SpaceX earlier this year. In June, the combined company went public for more than two trillion dollars, partially on the promise of data centers in space.

The company has promised to launch up to one million compute satellites, with its first ‘AI1’ satellite design supporting peak power levels of up to 150kW. While xAI has successfully leased its terrestrial data centers to Anthropic and Google, its satellite plans remain controversial and untested.

“Homeboy you're the one selling public market investors on short-term space data centers,” Altman claimed.
