NorthC has broken ground on a 6MW data center campus in Frankfurt, Germany, targeting energization in 2028.

The project adds critical European capacity to meet rising EU AI workload demands, though the 2028 timeline reflects ongoing grid connection delays and permitting bottlenecks.

European operator NorthC has commenced preparatory construction work on a new data center in Frankfurt, Germany. “A new chapter begins for NorthC Datacenters Deutschland on Mainzer Landstraße: The preparatory construction work for our new FRA01 data center has begun,” the company announced on LinkedIn this week.

Situated at Mainzer Landstraße 695 in western Frankfurt, the facility will deliver a total capacity of 6MW. The first phase is scheduled to go live in January 2028.

NorthC currently has three additional facilities in development across the Frankfurt region, alongside its operational Frankfurt 3 site, which was acquired from Colt. Frankfurt 2 will be located at Dornhofstraße 14 in Neu-Isenburg, approximately 8km (5 miles) south of Frankfurt. Previously used for industrial warehousing, the site was purchased earlier this year from family office Lugman Capital, with plans for a 4.5MW data center. After entering the German market via the acquisition of IP Exchange in 2022, NorthC first announced plans for a 5MW Frankfurt facility in January 2024, followed by a second announcement in December 2024 detailing another site slated to launch with 1.5MW and scale to 10.5MW at full build-out.

NorthC was established in 2019 through the merger of Dutch data center operators TDCG and NLDC, the latter originally a subsidiary of telecoms firm KPN. Antin Infrastructure Partners acquired the company in December 2025.

The 900kW Frankfurt 3 facility, located at Rüsselsheimer Straße 22, occupies a former CenturyLink/Lumen site. NorthC took control of the property when it acquired a portfolio of European facilities from Colt last year; Colt itself acquired Lumen’s EMEA operations in 2023.

Across Germany, NorthC operates data centers in Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Munich.
