Poland's government has secured a PLN 1.56 billion ($401 million) grant from the European Union's European Funds for Digital Development program to build a National Data Processing Center (KCPD). The project, overseen by the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Scientific and Academic Computer Network – National Research Institute (NASK-PIB), will construct three interconnected data centers across the country, supplemented by fiber-optic connections and supporting IT infrastructure.

First announced in 2022, the KCPD was designed to strengthen cybersecurity resilience across Polish government operations. The original plan called for three facilities of 2,000 square meters each, built to EN 50600 standards and connected by a dedicated fiber-optic network to ensure independent communication between sites. Originally scheduled for completion between 2024 and 2026, the project faced delays following cancellation of an earlier procurement round. The estimated cost has also risen, from PLN 1 billion in 2025 to a ceiling of PLN 1.6 billion for the first development phase, with completion now targeted for 2029.

In a related development, Poland's Ministry of Digital Affairs has also announced receipt of a PLN 172.7 million ($44.3 million) grant from the same European program to expand its Government Cloud Computing (RCho) initiative. These funds will extend RCho's cloud infrastructure, develop new applications and IT solutions, and establish groundwork for integration with future AI services. The Ministry issued a formal call for expansion proposals in April.

Poland's data center sector has attracted significant investor attention, with cumulative investments projected to reach PLN 292.90 billion through 2036 according to analysis by PwC and xyz.pl.
