Bull has opened a new production building in Angers, marking a major milestone in the complete reconstruction of its historic industrial site. The €80 million transformation creates a unique European facility capable of designing, integrating, assembling, testing and validating supercomputers, artificial intelligence infrastructures, enterprise servers, and future quantum technologies—underscoring Bull's ambition to support sovereign computing and AI growth.

The reconstruction and modernization project, due for completion in 2028, combines industrial excellence, competitiveness, environmental responsibility and an enhanced working environment. The new 20,000 m² site incorporates Industry 5.0 concepts, enabling production areas to be reconfigured as needed and allowing greater automation, virtualization and collaborative robotics. Production capacity has doubled, with productivity gains of 30% and building maintenance cost reductions of 30%.

The facility prioritizes sustainability. Over 3,500 photovoltaic panels across 7,000 m² provide a combined peak capacity of 1,500 kWp. A waste heat recovery system captures equipment byproducts, targeting 5 GWh per year of energy injection into the district heating network—equivalent to supplying 600 households. The 10,700 m² dedicated production area incorporates modern facilities fostering employee collaboration and creativity.

The redevelopment, carried out by local public development company Alter Cités, received €1.2 million through the Green Fund for ecological transition, €213,000 from ADEME's Heat Fund, and €1.5 million in support from the Pays de la Loire Regional Council.

As Europe's only industrial site capable of assembling large-scale supercomputers, Angers manufactures, integrates, tests and validates some of the world's most powerful and energy-efficient digital infrastructures. The facility has contributed to JUPITER, Europe's first supercomputer capable of one quintillion calculations per second, and three of the world's most energy-efficient supercomputers by Green500 ranking. Bull brings together unique expertise in supercomputers, enterprise servers and quantum technologies at the site while accelerating artificial intelligence capabilities, leveraging 800 R&D engineers and an ecosystem of leading partners. In 2027, the factory will deliver Alice Recoque, Europe's next exascale supercomputer hosted in France, and LUMI-AI, the system at the heart of the LUMI AI Factory in Finland.

Bull is launching an "Open Factory" program to make its industrial capabilities available to companies developing strategic technologies in artificial intelligence, advanced computing and quantum technologies. The initiative aims to reshore infrastructure manufacturing to Europe and help technology players scale from R&D to large-scale production. Building on its expertise in designing, integrating and assembling complex systems, Bull will support development of AI GigaFactories, neocloud providers and hybrid architectures combining high-performance computing and quantum. A strategic partnership with Foxconn, recently announced, represents the first outcome of this approach, focusing on designing and manufacturing AI servers in Europe based on the NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 platform for AI Factories and cloud providers. Additional industrial partnerships enabling the industrialization of new AI and quantum technologies in Europe will be announced in early 2027.

"Since opening in 1963, the Angers factory has been integral to Bull's history and major milestones," said Bull CEO Emmanuel Le Roux. "Today, it embodies our transformation: from a historic computing player to a leading industrial partner for high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and sovereign digital infrastructures. This factory reflects our conviction that Europe must have the industrial capabilities required to produce tomorrow's strategic digital infrastructures on its own territory. This new facility will support the next generation of supercomputers, AI infrastructures and advanced computing technologies, helping nations and organizations strengthen their strategic autonomy."

Bull is a global leader for high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and quantum technologies, with approximately €720 million in revenue and 3,000 professionals operating in 32 countries. Built on an open, end-to-end and trusted approach, the company designs, deploys and operates hardware, software and strategic services that unlock enterprise value, accelerate scientific research and advance society. Backed by 1,600 patents and world-class R&D, Bull enables nations and industries to fully control their AI and data infrastructure and drive progress for the benefit of the planet.
