Mountain View-based Bespoke Labs has raised $40 million in Series A funding led by Wing Venture Capital, with participation from Mayfield, The House Fund, and angels from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta, including dbt Labs CEO Tristan Handy. The company will deploy the capital to expand its research team and scale its environment-building infrastructure.

Founded in 2024 by Mahesh Sathiamoorthy and Alex Dimakis, Bespoke Labs develops tools that enable AI developers and enterprises to test, measure, and refine autonomous systems before production deployment. The company's software infrastructure helps AI agents operate reliably in real-world business environments. "Frontier labs, enterprises, and all organizations relying on reliable agents need access to high-quality environments," said Sathiamoorthy, CEO and former staff software engineer at Google DeepMind. Alongside its commercial platform, the company contributes to open-source research advancing AI evaluation and performance.

The infrastructure challenge is substantial. Research from U.S. industry institutions indicates that an estimated 70% to 95% of AI agent projects fail to reach production, with weaknesses in underlying data infrastructure and difficulties managing errors in complex, multi-step tasks cited as primary causes. While adoption is accelerating—McKinsey & Company's latest survey found 88% of organizations now use AI in at least one business function, up from 78% a year prior—most companies remain in testing or pilot phases, with only about one-third scaling technology across workflows.

Bespoke Labs addresses this gap by developing simulated enterprise environments that include software systems, internal communications, and operational workflows, allowing agents to learn and improve in realistic settings. "We work with labs on research programs spanning reinforcement learning, environment curation, benchmarking, and long-horizon modeling so that environments keep pace with the frontier of agent capabilities," said Alex Dimakis, chief science officer.

Wing Venture Capital, founded in 2013, focuses on early-stage enterprise technology and AI investments. The firm's portfolio includes Cohesity, Gong, and Snowflake, among others, and has backed more than 20 companies that achieved billion-dollar valuations. It manages approximately $1.45 billion in capital, with its flagship Wing Four fund closed at $600 million. "As frontier labs and AI-native enterprises push the boundaries of long-horizon agentic capabilities, a new generation of data and training infrastructure is required," said Peter Wagner, founding partner at Wing Venture Capital.
