Shares of Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) closed most recently at $163.75, down 24.9% over the past week and 40.5% in a month, even after the fuel cell maker posted a record Q2 with $1.07 billion in revenue and raised full-year guidance. Despite the selloff, Wall Street analysts still peg fair value at $286.20, implying 74.8% upside from current levels.

Retail sentiment has collapsed dramatically. Bloom Energy's proprietary Reddit sentiment score plunged from bullish readings near 78 in early July to a deeply bearish 18 by July 22. The shift accelerated as r/wallstreetbets took over the discussion with leveraged plays and margin-call posts on positions of 1,100 shares. By July 20, WSB flipped bearish and stayed there, while r/stocks saw sentiment decline from the mid-70s to the 30s. Meanwhile, r/investing hosted a bullish thread that peaked at 101 comments on July 17 before cooling to a tone of exhaustion.

A short-seller report knocked the stock down 5.6% on July 8 and triggered a Rosen Law class-action inquiry. Bloom Energy carries a beta of 3.7, meaning volatility hits retail accounts particularly hard—exactly what margin-call posts documented. Insider transactions have turned negative as well, with 27 recent trades showing net selling pressure.

Analysts, however, have remained steadfast. Morningstar lifted its fair value estimate 15% in April following the Oracle deal that locked in 2.8 GW of AI data center capacity for Bloom. Management now guides for $3.9 billion to $4.2 billion in 2026 revenue, roughly doubling year over year. CEO K.R. Sridhar told investors, "Bloom is now a standard for AI onsite power." Yet the composite sentiment index still reads bearish at 34.42, weighed down by the Reddit collapse and insider selling.

Peers riding the same theme—Vertiv (NYSE:VRT) and GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV)—have delivered steadier price action than Bloom, whose forward P/E of 84 leaves no cushion if hyperscaler orders slip or the short-seller narrative gains traction. The class-action filing and whether the Brookfield JV converts backlog into new hyperscaler contracts will be critical catalysts determining whether Reddit's fear or the $286 analyst target prevails.
