At SIGGRAPH 2026 in Los Angeles, NVIDIA research and engineering leaders Neil Ashton, Edward Liu and Ming-Yu Liu presented the latest breakthroughs in neural rendering, world models and simulation technologies that are transforming how digital worlds are created across creative, industrial and robotics domains.
Edward Liu, director of applied deep learning research at NVIDIA, showcased 3D-guided neural rendering, addressing three key research challenges: preserving artistic intent, ensuring temporal stability across frames and rendering 4K content in real time. "Control in artistic direction is a really exciting research direction for us," Liu said. "Simulation defines the world, generation enriches its appearance and artists direct the outcome. AI extending graphics the same way programmable shaders and ray tracing have extended graphics before."
Neil Ashton, distinguished engineer at NVIDIA, covered innovation in AI physics with applications spanning weather forecasting, automotive aerodynamics and thermal design. The NVIDIA Earth-2 family of open models is enabling scientists to boost simulation resolutions using AI models trained on simulation data while achieving accuracy equal to or greater than traditional approaches. Ashton highlighted how new model architectures compress checkpoints to a couple hundred megabytes — a million-times compression — enabling physically accurate visualizations within a second.
Ming-Yu Liu, vice president of Cosmos Lab at NVIDIA, announced advances in NVIDIA Cosmos, a world foundation model platform. The latest addition, Cosmos 3 Edge, is a 4-billion-parameter model built to run in real time on device. Ming-Yu Liu also announced Cosmos-Dreams, a collection of closed-loop simulators. One demonstrated simulator for autonomous vehicles generates an entire world from a single frame, running on a single NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 GPU. Developers can use Cosmos-Dreams to verify model accuracy before deployment or train models on AI-generated scenarios difficult to create in the real world.
Leading creative applications are opening Model Context Protocol connections allowing AI agents to work inside professional tools. Adobe is expanding its creative agent across Firefly, Express and Creative Cloud, while also providing the Adobe Express Developer MCP Server for AI coding assistants. Affinity by Canva introduced an AI Connector for Claude using MCP to bring natural language automation into Affinity, enabling designers to handle repetitive tasks like renaming layers, resizing assets, applying bulk edits and preparing files for delivery.
