Anthropic PBC is targeting a mid-November IPO, with formal marketing potentially beginning the week of November 9 to allow trading to commence before Thanksgiving on November 26, when dealmaking typically stalls. The company is expected to complete its public debut by year-end, though deliberations remain ongoing and the timeline could shift. The AI developer had been positioned to file following the summer but has deferred its plans.

Anthropic faces intensifying competition from OpenAI, which has accelerated sales momentum recently. Both companies now operate under heightened public scrutiny regarding AI safety, following high-profile hacking incidents involving rogue agents. CEO Dario Amodei has published an essay calling for slower advancement of new AI models, while OpenAI's Sam Altman has stated that going public would be inadvisable at this juncture. Nevertheless, prospective investors remain engaged, with estimates placing Anthropic's fair valuation in the $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion range—a level expected to match or exceed SpaceX's IPO proceeds.

The company's financial picture reveals significant losses against growing revenue. Anthropic reported a net loss of approximately $42 billion in 2025, roughly five times its $8.3 billion loss in 2024. Revenue reached approximately $4.6 billion in 2025, up sharply from $386 million in 2024, though operating losses ballooned to more than $8 billion. The bulk of the net loss—over $34 billion—stemmed from changes in the fair value of the company's liabilities.

Anthropic has scheduled investor meetings for October 14 at its San Francisco headquarters as IPO preparation accelerates. The company's push to proceed defies recent market weakness: Oura Inc. postponed its debut just hours before a scheduled IPO after investors objected to a $15 billion fully diluted valuation. The 2025 IPO class has underperformed markedly—excluding SpaceX and SK Hynix's record-setting listings, the weighted-average return for over 100 newly listed stocks stands at negative 4%, substantially below the S&P 500's 12% gain and the Nasdaq 100's 20% rise.
