Akamai signs an $11.6 billion compute capacity deal with Anthropic, leasing infrastructure for CPU workloads independent of hyperscaler clouds.

Anthropic is leasing compute capacity from Akamai Technologies under a seven-year agreement valued at $11.6 billion. The deal will enable Anthropic to leverage Akamai Cloud's distributed infrastructure and software to support its CPU workloads.

The agreement includes provisions for expansion by up to an additional $9 billion, bringing the total potential commitment to approximately $20 billion. Akamai estimates total capital expenditures related to the deal at approximately $5.5 billion, with an additional $1.7 billion in capital expenditures planned for 2026 to secure and pre-purchase critical supply chain components, including memory.

As part of the deal, Akamai has issued Anthropic a warrant for up to approximately five percent of Akamai's outstanding common stock, with continued vesting tied to expansion of the agreement. A portion of the warrant representing approximately two percent of Akamai's outstanding common stock is expected to vest in connection with the announced commitment.

The agreement contributes to more than $2.8 billion in multi-year cloud commitments Akamai has secured during the year.
