OpenAI and Anthropic are independently seeking 20-30MW data center deployments to expand inference capacity outside of major cloud providers.
Alongside their push for large training clusters, AI labs OpenAI and Anthropic are pursuing smaller data center deployments to expand their inference infrastructure.
Both companies are in talks for 20-30MW capacity deals at data centers, according to CNBC. OpenAI has discussed such arrangements with companies in the US and Nordics, while Anthropic has held similar conversations in the UK and Nordics.
"We're building a diversified compute portfolio to meet growing demand for AI around the world," OpenAI said in a statement. "Different workloads need different infrastructure, so we have conversations with a range of partners and assess opportunities based on our requirements, performance, reliability, timing and cost. We don't comment on specific commercial discussions."
Anthropic has signed at least $517 billion in compute capacity leases over the past 11 months as it expands capacity to train and serve its Claude models.
