SiFive and AMD are collaborating to optimize AMD's ROCm software stack for RISC-V datacenter servers, enabling open-standard CPU alternatives for AI compute.
SiFive and AMD demonstrated AMD ROCm running on SiFive's BigSky Datacenter Development Platform at the AI Infra Summit on September 15, 2026. The demonstration-only system showed the capability to run the modern Gemma4-E2B LLM model using ROCm 10.0 on SiFive servers powered by the SiFive Performance P870-D CPUs as the head node, with AMD Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPUs driving inference offload. The companies intend to continue evaluating optimization of ROCm on RISC-V powered servers to accelerate processing times and enable larger models and additional use cases.

The SiFive BigSky SF-2U870 platform is designed for advanced software porting, workload tuning, and validation testing. Hardware specifications include 32 P870-D cores operating at 2.0 GHz, 256GB DDR5-5600 memory, 4x PCIe Gen5 x16 (64 lanes) and PCIe Gen3 x4, 2x 7.68TB U.2 NVMe SSD, and 10/25Gb OCP 3.0 NIC.
