Broadcom could become Anthropic's largest custom chip customer, signaling a major commitment by the AI lab to in-house silicon for inference at scale.
Broadcom shares rose approximately 2% in early Monday trading as investors reacted positively to renewed confidence in the company's AI chip outlook. The gain followed CEO Hock Tan's recent pushback against concerns that a slowdown in AI development could diminish demand for Broadcom's custom processors and networking products. Tan has reiterated that AI infrastructure spending should remain robust, particularly as inference workloads continue to expand.
Broadcom's latest quarterly results support this outlook. The company reported $29.6 billion in fiscal third-quarter revenue, representing 86% year-over-year growth, while AI semiconductor revenue surged 221% to $16.7 billion.
Management is also banking on demand from Anthropic and other AI developers. Anthropic is projected to become Broadcom's largest XPU customer in 2027, with the company forecasting AI semiconductor revenue of approximately $115 billion in fiscal 2027 and $230 billion in fiscal 2028.
The stock's latest gains come as Broadcom shares rebound from recent pressure alongside other AI-related equities amid ongoing debate over the pace of future AI infrastructure spending.
