Stored Energy Systems, a provider of engineered power solutions for mission-critical infrastructure, is showcasing PowerCab 2 at Data Center World POWER from September 21 to 23 in Dallas, Texas. The product represents a significant change in how critical DC power is architected for gigawatt-scale data centers. Eighty percent of hyperscale and colocation data center campuses in the United States currently use SENS DC power technology, collectively representing multiple gigawatts of capacity.
PowerCab 2 replaces the traditional data center battery room and hundreds of discrete DC power components with a single compact, factory-tested platform. The integrated system reduces power distribution cabinet and electrical house footprints by approximately twenty percent or more, requires significantly less onsite integration work, and can potentially accelerate deployment timelines.
According to Eric Solanyk, Vice President of Mission Critical Power Systems at SENS, data center campuses are expanding to gigawatt scale while DC power continues to consume valuable space. PowerCab's design brings critical DC power functions together in one factory-engineered system that delivers significant project savings while maintaining the scalability and reliability that these facilities require.
PowerCab 2 typically eliminates more than three hundred square feet of dedicated battery room space from each power distribution cabinet or electrical house. At an estimated installed cost of eight hundred fifty dollars per square foot, this translates to potential capital savings of approximately two hundred fifty-five thousand dollars per structure. For a one gigawatt data center campus containing eighty to three hundred power distribution cabinets or electrical houses, total savings can reach twenty to eighty million dollars, or roughly twenty thousand to eighty thousand dollars per megawatt of campus capacity.
The system supports twenty-four volt DC, forty-eight volt DC, one hundred twenty-five volt DC, and two hundred forty volt DC control and station power. It supports multiple battery chemistries and offers N plus one, N plus N, and dual-bus redundancy options. The system is available in NEMA 1 and NEMA 3R enclosures rated for operation between negative forty degrees Celsius and fifty-five degrees Celsius.
