Firebird, an emerging AI cloud provider, has officially launched the Commonwealth of Independent States region’s largest AI factory in Armenia. The facility establishes a new regional computing hub powered by NVIDIA accelerated computing and Dell Technologies high-performance AI infrastructure. The opening ceremony was attended by Nikol Pashinyan, prime minister of the Republic of Armenia; Zhaslan Madiyev, deputy prime minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan; and David Allen, U.S. chargé d`affaires, a.i. in Armenia.
AI factories serve as the foundational infrastructure for the artificial intelligence era, delivering the massive computing capacity required to train, fine-tune, and deploy AI models across every domain at scale. While AI services are widely available globally, nations require domestic capacity to develop and operate AI tailored to their own languages, industries, and national priorities. This new facility provides that capability to Armenia, equipping developers, startups, enterprises, universities, and public institutions with the local compute resources needed to build and scale artificial intelligence domestically.
By the end of 2027, Firebird plans to deploy more than 70,000 NVIDIA Rubin and Blackwell GPUs alongside 300 megawatts of AI infrastructure capacity in Armenia. This expansion will accelerate the country’s emergence as a center for AI research, advanced computing, and innovation. Regarding long-term growth, Alexander Yesayan, co-founder of Firebird, stated, Our ambition for what we are building in the next 2 years or so is roughly 2 gigawatts of capacity around the world. We’re very focused on merging into frontier markets. To support this vision, Firebird is pursuing an approximately 2-gigawatt AI infrastructure roadmap spanning Armenia, Kazakhstan, and additional markets, backed by NVIDIA’s support.
Energy efficiency remains critical at this operational scale. Constructed on the NVIDIA DSX platform, the facility integrates accelerated computing, networking, power, and cooling into a single codesigned system. Designed from the ground up to convert compute into revenue, the DSX architecture allows the factory to run up to 40% more GPUs within the same physical footprint, generating more tokens per dollar and extracting greater value from every megawatt of capacity. Financial backing continues to strengthen these efforts, as NVIDIA intends to invest in Firebird following an earlier investment by CoreWeave this year. These funds will expand Firebird’s global infrastructure and operational footprint, supporting its goal of establishing the largest and most advanced compute clusters across frontier markets.
The Armenia facility was delivered in just over six months, demonstrating Firebird’s ability to rapidly convert ambitious infrastructure plans into operational capacity. Schneider Electric supplied the power infrastructure in Hrazdan, rapidly deploying critical systems including medium- and low-voltage switchgear, three-phase uninterruptible power supply systems, and rack enclosures to maintain alignment with the accelerated deployment schedule. For thermal management, Vertiv provided a cooling architecture that combines chilled-water technology, advanced controls, and Vertiv TrimCooler technology for efficient heat rejection. Vertiv’s iCOM CWM Chilled Water Manager centrally coordinates cooling resources, enhancing visibility, efficiency, and responsiveness as demand fluctuates with AI workloads.
Early commercial demand has already materialized from AI-native companies such as Perplexity, which is partnering with Firebird to access high-performance infrastructure for its AI agent platform and answer engine. As artificial intelligence becomes essential global infrastructure, Firebird’s expansion aims to position the CIS region as a magnet for international companies developing and operating AI, while simultaneously acting as a catalyst for local developers, researchers, and enterprises. Powered by NVIDIA’s total AI factory platform, which includes reference architecture, accelerated computing, networking, and AI software, and deployed on Dell PowerEdge servers, the new facility will help Armenian innovators turn energy into intelligence and integrate their breakthroughs into the global AI economy.
