Hyperscale Data has ceased Bitcoin mining operations at its Michigan data center as it prepares the facility for artificial intelligence workloads. The company confirmed that all mining activities concluded on September 1, 2026, ahead of deploying a neocloud customer’s AI infrastructure at the site.

The unnamed client, a California-based neocloud provider, signed a lease agreement with Hyperscale Data in June 2026. Under the terms of the deal, 20 megawatts (MW) of capacity will be deployed and operational by the fourth quarter of 2026, with provisions allowing the customer to scale up to 52 MW of compute power. The contract carries an initial ten-year term with two five-year extension options. If exercised to its maximum duration, the agreement is valued at approximately $1.2 billion.

"We are pleased with the continued progress we are making at the facility," said William Horne, Hyperscale Data's CEO. "The immediate shutdown of the Bitcoin mining operations allows our team to focus the facility's power, infrastructure, and resources in preparing the facility for its usage by our customer.

"Further, as the expansion of the facility to support AI computing infrastructure progresses, it is my belief that our stockholders will be rewarded as the company's market capitalization, which currently trades at a significant discount to other data center companies, begins to normalize in comparison to its available contracted power capacity. In fact, earlier this year, VanEck's head of digital asset research stated that Bitcoin mining companies, like ours, that could repurpose existing sites for AI were 'sitting on a gold mine' because they were trading at a steep discount to traditional data center companies."

Hyperscale Data acquired the property at 415 East Prairie Ronde Street in Dowagiac, Michigan, in May 2022. The 617,000-square-foot (57,320-square-meter) facility was originally constructed in 1972 as a manufacturing plant. Hyperscale began repurposing the site for high-performance computing and colocation services in early 2025, and announced additional plans for a robotics laboratory in June 2026.

Currently operating at 30 MW, the company aims to expand the campus to 340 MW, incorporating 40 MW of behind-the-meter natural gas generation capacity.

Formerly known as Ault Alliance, Hyperscale Data operated as a diversified holding company with investments spanning oil exploration, crane services, defense and aerospace, industrial manufacturing, automotive, medical and biopharmaceuticals, consumer electronics, hospitality, and textiles. In 2024, the company announced a strategic pivot toward AI and data center development, accompanied by a corporate rebranding and plans to divest all non-data center assets.
