Microsoft는 2032년까지 데이터 센터 용량 38 GW를 목표로 하고 있으며, 현재 약 12 GW에서 증가—6년간 3배 확장.
Microsoft is planning to more than triple its data center capacity by 2032, targeting 38GW compared to its current 12GW of operations. According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the plans, the expansion will combine self-owned data centers with leased capacity from third-party providers and neoclouds, including signed agreements with CoreWeave, Nscale, Lambda, Iren, and Nebius. As of November 2025, Microsoft had committed an estimated $60 billion to this infrastructure buildout.
The company's capital expenditure has accelerated significantly. After spending $55.7 billion on capex in 2024, Microsoft increased to $115.9 billion in 2025, then $145.3 billion in 2026, with projections reaching $175 billion for 2027. While Microsoft declined to comment on its data center plans to Bloomberg, the company has become more transparent about its expansion, dropping NDAs related to its projects in March 2026.
Recent deployment rates underscore the scale of the effort. Microsoft brought 1GW of capacity online over recent quarters, with 88 new data centers entering service during fiscal 2026—31 of them in the fourth quarter alone. To meet the 2032 target, the company will need to maintain an average deployment rate of just over 1GW per quarter. Among the projects already operational are two "Fairwater" facilities, large AI-dedicated data centers housing hundreds of thousands of GPUs each.
The expansion trajectory faces growing regulatory pressure. Across the United States, states are increasingly requiring data center operators to fund their own infrastructure upgrades, including electrical and water systems. Some states have implemented moratoriums on new data center projects, adding complexity to build schedules across the industry.
