Charter Communications Chief Financial Officer Jessica Fischer will join the newly formed joint venture between Google and Blackstone, which is developing a TPU-based neocloud. Fischer spent nearly nine and a half years at the telecommunications company and will remain with Charter until October 15 before officially joining the venture in October.

Following her departure, Kevin Howard, the company’s current executive vice president, chief accounting officer, and controller, will assume the role of interim CFO.

“I’m excited to share that, after nearly 10 years at Charter Communications, I'm embarking on an exciting new opportunity in the AI Infrastructure space - joining the newly-formed joint venture between Blackstone and Google in October,” Fischer said. “I leave behind an incredible team. Together we made important investments in the future of cable and brought together businesses with tremendous potential. I’m deeply grateful to my colleagues at Charter for their partnership, support, and commitment over the years. I’m proud of what we accomplished together, and I wish the team continued success.”

The as-yet-unnamed business will build a neocloud infrastructure centered on Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), hardware that has historically been available exclusively through Google Cloud. Under the joint venture, Blackstone will commit $5 billion in equity capital from its funds. The partners aim to bring 500MW of capacity online by 2027, with plans to scale operations over time.

The project will be led by Benjamin Treynor Sloss, former vice president of engineering at Google.
