NVIDIA announced a collaboration with Australian NVIDIA Cloud Partners and infrastructure providers including Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, ResetData, Megaport, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk to expand land, power and facilities capacity for hosting multiple generations of NVIDIA DSX AI factories. The initiative aims to meet Australia's growing demand for AI compute with a planned buildout reaching up to 2 gigawatts by 2027.
The NVIDIA DSX platform is a full-stack AI factory system spanning facilities infrastructure, computing, networking, software and reference designs. It is compatible with the NVIDIA CUDA ecosystem and improves over time through software enhancements, helping operators serve diverse workloads, improve performance and utilization, and extend asset lifespan. Participating infrastructure providers will operate the facilities while NVIDIA delivers the platform, accelerated computing, networking, software and ecosystem support.
Raj Mirpuri, vice president of global AI clouds and infrastructure ecosystem at NVIDIA, stated that AI factories turn energy into intelligence and that the DSX platform makes infrastructure more productive, fungible and durable while expanding local access to accelerated computing and NVIDIA Nemotron open models. This expanded capacity will enable Australian innovators including companies like Heidi and Atlassian to develop locally relevant AI models, applications and agents.
Individual partners are making significant commitments. Sharon AI is deploying up to 68,000 NVIDIA GPUs connected with NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand and Spectrum-X Ethernet networking. IREN is leveraging its vertically integrated platform combined with NVIDIA's reference architecture to develop its 800-megawatt Bundey campus in South Australia. Firmus is expanding its Project Southgate initiative to support hyperscale and AI-native demand across Australia and Asia-Pacific. ResetData is providing NVIDIA accelerated computing through its cloud platform with Australian data residency, while CDC operates more than 550 megawatts of capacity across Australia and New Zealand using 100 percent renewable electricity and advanced zero water cooling technologies.
