SpaceX AI launched a gigawatt-scale data center generating $28 billion annualized leasing revenue, demonstrating 3-5x revenue-per-MW advantage over traditional cloud commitments.
SpaceX AI's data center leasing deals are worth $28 billion annualized and generate roughly 3–5x more revenue per MW than traditional multi-year cloud commitments. According to SemiAnalysis, SpaceX is selling immediacy: if you need significant AI data center capacity, you can access it now or within months, rather than waiting 1–3 years for a purpose-built facility. Anthropic, for example, secured 300 MW of usable capacity within a month. The premium reflects both scarcity and time-value pricing.
Anthropic and OpenAI have emerged as the most aggressive renters, securing capacity from Amazon, Google, Microsoft, CoreWeave, and SpaceX.
Amazon Web Services serves as Anthropic's primary training partner. Project Rainier, comprising approximately 500,000 Trainium2 chips based in Indiana, went live in late 2025. An expansion announced for April 2026 targets up to 5 GW of Trainium2/3/4 capacity, with roughly 1 GW expected online by year-end 2026 as part of a $100 billion decade-long commitment.
Anthropic's Google Cloud agreement, finalized in October 2025, provides access to up to 1 million TPUs and over 1 GW of capacity, currently live and expanding through 2026. Additionally, Broadcom will supply Anthropic with 3.5 gigawatts of Google TPU capacity beginning in 2027, though most installations will not be ready until 2028 or later.
Google is investing tens of billions to support Anthropic's infrastructure, including backstopping direct data-center leases spanning over 1 GW across 12+ preliminary U.S. sites, mostly coming online after 2027.
SpaceX's Colossus 1 facility in Memphis represents Anthropic's largest single deployment. Anthropic is utilizing all of Colossus 1's compute—over 300 MW spanning 220,000+ Nvidia GPUs (H100/H200/GB200)—under a $1.25 billion monthly agreement through May 2029, totaling over $40 billion with discounted rates for the first two months. This facility reached full utilization between May and June 2026.
Meta may develop excess AI data center capacity in the future but does not currently possess it. Microsoft and Google remain capacity-constrained for their own operations and customer demand, both reporting substantial unfulfilled order backlogs.
