An 8-K is a "material events report" that public companies must file promptly when events important to investors occur. Common contents include material agreements or customer contracts, mergers and acquisitions, financing and debt matters, important personnel changes, and similar items. These documents are traceable first-hand official disclosures with higher certainty than any secondary reports.
