Delays in data center construction and renewable energy projects are intensifying strain on Australia’s national power grid.

Australia’s electricity grid operator has warned that a massive spike in data centre power demand, combined with ongoing delays to the buildout of renewable energy projects, could threaten the nation’s ability to keep the lights on over the next decade.

A report by the Australian Energy Market Operator found that while sufficient new renewable energy is currently under development to prevent power reliability problems through 2030, this forecast hinges on several projects that are likely to run late.
