Chile's Orion Power is seeking grid connection approval for its 90MW data center in Chile.
Chilean renewables player Orion Power submitted a request for open access authorization to connect a data center project to the grid, adding to Chile's growing pipeline of early-stage data centers.
The request corresponds to a 90MW initiative branded Data Center Moreras, earmarked for Buin, a district within the Santiago Metropolitan region.
Slated to start construction by the end of 2029 and enter service in mid-2031, the project would connect to the Alto Jahuel substation at 110kV, according to a document published by grid coordinator CEN.
The request is the latest in a string of similar applications made to CEN.
Chile's pipeline of early-stage data centers is growing. The chief focus is Santiago, while a decentralization push could see assets, particularly those geared to training AI models, built in the north and south.
In a 2026–46 demand forecast, CEN said the data center segment could more than triple its installed capacity by 2030. Data center capacity, estimated at about 398MW in 2025, is projected to reach 642MW in 2027, 963MW in 2028 and 1,381MW by 2030, based on projects identified by the coordinator.
