Microsoft announces over $10 billion investment in AI infrastructure and cloud services across the Gulf region by 2030.
Microsoft is planning to invest more than $10 billion across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait between now and 2030, with a focus on cloud and AI infrastructure. Vice Chair and President Brad Smith announced the commitment on Wednesday, citing both the company's "ongoing build-out of infrastructure and also the expansion of operations in the region."
Digital resilience has become a central component of Microsoft's regional strategy, particularly as geopolitical tensions persist in the Middle East. The company is positioning its infrastructure investments as critical to supporting both enterprise and national resilience objectives across the Gulf states.
The Gulf region has emerged as a major destination for artificial intelligence investment, as oil and gas-dependent economies pursue diversification into technology hubs. Gulf governments are betting that regional advantages—abundant land, access to cheap energy, and substantial capital—will attract major cloud and AI operators like Microsoft. The region's substantial investments in AI infrastructure reflect this strategic pivot toward becoming a global center for advanced computing capabilities.
