Anthropic has signed a $10 billion deal with AI cloud startup Volta to secure cloud compute capacity over a six-year period. The agreement will see Volta provide the Claude maker with data center services powered by Nvidia's Vera Rubin architecture. The facility, located in Norway, will deliver 133 megawatts of capacity, with crypto-mining firm Bitdeer assisting in development of the data center.

Anthropic has been aggressively increasing its compute capacity in recent months as it competes with other AI labs. The company recently announced similar deals with SpaceX and Amazon, signaling a broader strategy to secure the massive computational resources needed to train and run its AI models. This partnership with Volta, which is part of Nvidia's Cloud Partner program, adds another layer to Anthropic's infrastructure strategy.

Volta, founded earlier this year, had previously hinted at a deal with an unnamed AI lab. The startup's participation in Nvidia's partner ecosystem provides access to the chipmaker's latest GPU technology, which is critical for high-performance AI workloads. Bitdeer's involvement highlights the growing convergence between crypto-mining infrastructure and AI compute, as companies repurpose energy-intensive facilities for machine learning.

The $10 billion deal spans six years, making it one of the largest cloud compute agreements in the AI sector. The Norwegian data center will be powered by Nvidia's Vera Rubin systems, the chipmaker's most advanced AI chip architecture. This infrastructure will support Anthropic's expanding model development and deployment needs.

Bitdeer, known primarily for cryptocurrency mining, will contribute expertise in energy management and large-scale operations. The partnership reflects a broader industry trend where crypto miners are pivoting to AI infrastructure as mining profitability fluctuates. For Volta, the agreement provides substantial revenue and credibility in the competitive AI cloud market, while strengthening Nvidia's position as the dominant supplier of AI chips and further entrenching its Vera Rubin platform in the industry.
