Broadcom’s Q2 analysis reveals a 221 percent AI revenue surge but warns of persistent supply headwinds and cautious forward guidance.
Fabless chip and software maker Broadcom (AVGO) met Wall Street’s revenue expectations in Q2 CY2026, with sales rising 85.5% year over year to $29.59 billion. On a per-share basis, non-GAAP profit reached $3.32, beating analysts’ consensus estimates by 2.5%. However, forward-looking sentiment was tempered by next quarter’s revenue guidance of $34.8 billion, which fell 1.1% short of analyst projections.
Despite the strong top-line performance, Broadcom’s shares reacted negatively as investors weighed the robust quarterly results against concerns regarding the company’s near-term trajectory. Management pointed to accelerating AI semiconductor demand, particularly from hyperscale customers deploying custom accelerators and AI networking solutions, as the primary catalyst. CEO Hock Tan highlighted that, “Q3 AI semiconductor revenue grew 221% year-on-year and up 54% sequentially,” fueled by high-volume shipments to key accounts including Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI. The company’s rapid innovation cycle and diversification across its AI chip portfolio were central to delivering operating leverage and margin expansion. Leadership credited the quarter’s performance to accelerating AI semiconductor adoption among leading AI labs and hyperscalers, alongside strategic product mix shifts and targeted supply chain investments.
Looking ahead, Broadcom’s revenue outlook balances optimism around sustained AI demand with caution regarding industry-wide infrastructure constraints. Management emphasized the critical need to secure supply for next-generation XPUs and networking products while acknowledging bottlenecks related to land acquisition, power availability, and data center readiness. CFO Amie O’Toole noted, “As XPUs become a larger proportion of our revenue mix, it impacts our margin,” adding that the company expects continued operating leverage to offset potential gross margin dilution. While AI-related growth is projected to remain strong, execution will hinge on Broadcom’s ability to navigate these external headwinds and deliver on its ambitious multi-year roadmap. Future growth is expected to be fueled by continued AI infrastructure build-out, though supply chain limitations and data center readiness will continue to shape near-term execution.
Moving forward, the StockStory team will track three key variables: (1) the pace at which Broadcom can alleviate supply chain bottlenecks, particularly in substrate and memory capacity; (2) the rate of customer-led build-outs for new data center infrastructure, including land and power logistics; and (3) the commercial adoption of next-generation AI semiconductors and networking products. Progress across these areas will be pivotal in sustaining the company’s growth trajectory. Broadcom currently trades at $343.60, down from $367.65 prior to the earnings release.
