캘리포니아 기술 기업가 Greg Lui가 $300 million 규모의 고급 AI 서버 및 반도체를 중국으로 밀수한 혐의로 미국 당국에 고발되었다.
A 38-year-old technology company owner from San Gabriel, California, has been arrested on federal charges for allegedly smuggling more than $300 million in export-controlled computer servers containing US-made GPUs to China. Greg Lui, also known as Yiu Kong Lui, is the owner of Earthmade Computer Inc., based in City of Industry, California.
According to a federal indictment unsealed on October 1, Lui used Earthmade Computer Inc. to purchase and ship high-end computer servers containing GPUs intended for "Super Intelligence" applications—a term used by President Trump to describe advanced artificial intelligence technology. The indictment alleges that Lui knowingly violated US export rules by routing the equipment to Chinese end-users without government approval.
From 2023 to 2024, prosecutors say Lui and his co-conspirators circumvented export restrictions by shipping the equipment through third countries, including Malaysia and Singapore, using false documentation.
"This defendant allegedly used false paperwork and shipments through third countries to smuggle more than $300 million in export-controlled computer servers to China," said First Assistant United States Attorney Bill Essayli. "We will aggressively prosecute those who put our national security at risk for profit."
Lui faces three federal charges: conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act and Export Administration Regulations, outbound smuggling, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 50 years in federal prison. He was expected to appear in federal court in downtown Los Angeles.
