Digital Realty begins construction of the 24 MW KIX15 data center in Osaka, Japan.
Digital Realty has commenced construction of KIX15, a 24-megawatt data center at its KIX Campus in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture, positioning the facility to serve higher-density cloud and AI workloads across Japan. The project is being developed by MC Digital Realty, a 50-50 joint venture between Digital Realty and Mitsubishi Corporation.
KIX15 will be the fifth data center at the Osaka campus and is slated to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2028. Upon completion, the facility will expand MC Digital Realty's Japan portfolio to 10 data centers with approximately 220 MW of aggregate IT capacity. The design incorporates hybrid air and liquid cooling systems to support higher-density computing environments.
The project is part of MC Digital Realty's Kansai AI Infrastructure Co-Creation Project, which pairs data center development with domestic and international connectivity initiatives and collaboration with regional telecommunications and technology partners. Customers at the campus will be able to access cloud services and other locations in Japan through multiple network providers and Digital Realty's ServiceFabric platform, with connections extending to Digital Realty's global data center footprint.
