Trane Technologies released LiquidStack CDU 2.X, a next-generation liquid cooling platform designed for high-density AI and HPC data center thermal management.
Trane Technologies, a global climate innovator, announced at Yotta 2026 the release of LiquidStack CDU 2.X, an architecture-agnostic coolant distribution unit designed to provide the cooling performance and deployment flexibility required for rapidly evolving AI infrastructure. The platform helps reduce redesign risk and simplify deployment for data center operators, reflecting Trane's continued investment in advanced thermal management for high-density environments.
As the GPU landscape accelerates and shifts, flexibility has become critical for the short and long-term viability of AI, high-performance computing, and hyperscale data centers. CDU 2.X addresses this need through a single design that supports today's industry-leading AI hardware and emerging solutions alike. With flow capability of up to 3,750 liters per minute at 3.5 bar, the platform delivers cooling performance for current GPU platforms while providing headroom for next-generation systems as rack densities increase.
"Operators need cooling infrastructure that can adapt as GPU platforms and rack densities evolve," said Scott Smith, General Manager of LiquidStack at Trane Technologies. "CDU 2.X combines the performance and flexibility customers need today with the headroom to prepare for what comes next, allowing them to configure cooling around their facility and deployment strategy rather than designing the facility around the CDU."
The CDU 2.X platform features broad architecture compatibility across multiple current and emerging AI silicon platforms from a common CDU architecture. Its ultra-low-harmonics VFD architecture addresses harmonic distortion at the source, reducing the need for additional power-quality components and simplifying system architecture. Flexible control valve, power-feed and redundancy options enable configuration around different facility and deployment architectures, while end-of-row and rack-adjacent deployment support provides operators greater flexibility to address increasing rack densities and future architectures.
The unit supports next-generation GPU platforms, including NVIDIA's Vera Rubin and beyond. Dual-feed A/B and automatic transfer switch options allow operators to configure CDU 2.X around different facility resiliency requirements. Lower approach temperatures and facility inlet temperatures up to 45°C support efficient liquid cooling system architectures.
This announcement follows the commercial availability of the LiquidStack GigaModular CDU platform, expanded to 14 MW of capacity. Trane's liquid cooling portfolio, including LiquidStack solutions, gives data center operators greater flexibility in deploying and scaling next-generation liquid cooling infrastructure.
CDU 2.X is available for pre-order now, with shipments beginning in the second quarter of 2027. More information is available at https://liquidstack.com/coolant-distribution-unit-2x.
