Broadcom Jericho3-AI 5nm Ethernet switch targets AI cluster interconnect, scaling hyperscaler network.
Broadcom's Jericho3-AI is a high-radix Ethernet switch designed specifically for large-scale GPU clusters in modern AI data centers. Built on a 5 nm process node with deep-buffer architecture, the switch sits at the core of training fabrics where thousands of GPUs exchange gradients continuously, keeping packets flowing smoothly even when bursts from multiple accelerators arrive simultaneously.
The switch delivers what Gos Latif, a senior product director at Broadcom working on Jericho switches, describes as "lossless Ethernet" over large clusters, using intelligent congestion control and packet prioritization. The silicon continuously measures traffic flows and optimizes queue handling to prevent important data from getting stuck behind bulk transfers—a continuous optimization rather than manual intervention on every rack.
Jericho-class devices typically expose hundreds of high-speed ports supporting 400G and above data rates, enabling operators to wire GPUs directly or via leaf switches without bottlenecking traffic. Broadcom documents emphasize scaling to multi-petabit aggregate bandwidth in a single chassis, allowing operators to wire tens of thousands of accelerators into one consistent fabric. The switch also integrates telemetry hooks so network engineers can track congestion, dropped packets, and latency across the fabric in real time.
Unlike proprietary interconnects, Jericho3-AI leverages Ethernet standards with extensions for AI workloads, allowing customers to reuse existing monitoring tools and cabling practices even as clusters grow larger. This approach provides a cleaner upgrade path: swap hardware while retaining most operational procedures.
Jericho3-AI forms part of Broadcom's broader data-center networking strategy, which CEO Hock Tan has repeatedly identified as a core pillar alongside custom silicon for hyperscale customers. Broadcom supplies these chips as merchant silicon, meaning OEMs build systems around them for end customers. This distribution model positions the company deeply within generative AI infrastructure, even when final products carry another brand's label.
Analysts highlight AI networking and accelerators as key drivers of Broadcom's recent valuation climb, with Jericho3-AI serving as a significant revenue component. Broadcom shares (ISIN US11135F1012) trade in Frankfurt on Xetra under the listing AVGO, providing European investors exposure to the company's AI infrastructure growth.
