Work has begun on a 165MW data center campus in Mikkeli, Finland, for Cerebras. The company revealed the project plans on September 1, with construction already underway on the initial 50MW phase. Developed in partnership with Compute Nordic Finland, the campus will utilize a closed-loop cooling system designed to support waste-heat recovery, channeling excess thermal energy to supply the local community.
“This partnership with Cerebras is not a speculative bet on future demand — it's a contractually committed, phased build-out that reflects exactly how much AI compute the market needs today and where that need is heading,” said Pyry Virrantaus, CEO of Compute Nordic Finland. “We are proud to build that capacity in Mikkeli, alongside a partner network of local and national organizations who are ready to deliver the project and build the workforce it requires.”
The facility will expand in stages, scaling from the initial 50MW to 80MW and ultimately reaching 165MW. Total investment is projected between €1 billion and €1.7 billion ($1.16 billion–$1.97 billion). Mikkeli is located in southern Finland, approximately 230 kilometers (143 miles) northeast of Helsinki. Compute Nordic’s expansion of its land holdings in the region was first reported in early 2026, accompanied by suggestions that two 100MW data centers could eventually be built on the site. Compute Nordic currently operates one facility in Sogndal, Norway. Several other developers, including FCDC Corp, Orka Technologies, and Regant Oy, are also targeting projects in Mikkeli.
Cerebras is best known for its wafer-scale chips and offers cloud services based on its hardware. The company previously stated it would target having 200MW of capacity online in Europe by the end of 2027, with a strategic focus on France and the Nordics. Elsewhere, Cerebras has signed a lease for 40MW of capacity at a Digi Power X data center in Columbiana, Alabama. Its inference clusters are currently live in Santa Clara and Stockton, California—the latter hosted at Nautilus’ floating barge facility—as well as in Dallas, Texas. The company is rolling out clusters in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and works closely with G42, including on a supercomputer project in India. In Canada, Cerebras is set to lease capacity in Montreal at a Bit Digital facility, alongside arrangements with Bell in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The firm is also planning a large-scale deployment in Guyana.
During its recent earnings call, the company noted that its revenue reached $210 million, a significant increase from the prior year, though it posted a net loss of $450.4 million, down from $309.5 million in net income in Q2 2025. The quarter saw data center capacity come online and additional capacity move under contract for delivery by the end of 2027, increasing total capacity to more than 600MW. The firm states that its overall development pipeline now spans multiple gigawatts.
