IREN Q1 FY2027 Earnings, November 2026

IREN reported Q1 FY27 total revenue of $228 million and AI Cloud revenue of $200 million — a 182% sequential jump at an 86% gross margin — with coverage linking the 20% session gain on November 6 to those results, while a Microsoft-linked Texas delivery delay and stressed sector financing conditions frame the remaining risks.

IREN's shares closed at $21.64 on November 6, up 20% on the day — a session-level move that multiple publications linked to the company's Q1 FY27 earnings, filed with the SEC as an 8-K on November 5. The recovery landed against a punishing backdrop: coverage shows IREN's stock had shed roughly 45% over the preceding month as a sector-wide sell-off gripped neoclouds, with Gartner warning in October that 80% of neocloud companies will cease to exist by 2030, and Elon Musk, in comments reported in November, cautioning that more than 200 neoclouds face what he described as "guppy-level death." That so much ground could be recovered in a single session reflects how heavily the stock had been sold heading into an earnings print that coverage had flagged as a critical test of the company's AI-pivot thesis.

The Q1 FY27 results, as filed, were operationally substantive. Total quarterly revenue reached $228 million, a 66% sequential increase, while AI Cloud revenue came in at $200 million — a 182% sequential jump that the 8-K itself describes as quarterly AI Cloud revenue that "nearly triples." The AI Cloud segment recorded an 86% gross margin, in line with the prior quarter, indicating the volume growth was not purchased through pricing concessions. Revenue backlog rose 22% sequentially. Coverage citing the report additionally noted that AI Cloud annualized recurring revenue has surpassed $1 billion, with a stated year-end target of $4 billion. The company's 10-Q, also filed November 5, describes IREN as "a vertically integrated AI Cloud platform, delivering data centers, compute and software for AI training and inference" — an identity far removed from its origins as Iris Energy, the bitcoin miner. IREN and Core Scientific, according to multiple reports, both plan to exit bitcoin mining largely by year-end as AI hosting takes over.

The scale of the transformation is sharpest in IREN's capital account. Slicast's compilation of SEC XBRL filings shows capital expenditure reached $3.00 billion in FY2026 — a 628.8% year-over-year increase from $411 million in FY2025 — against $707 million in revenue, producing a capex intensity of 424% of revenue. Among the seven neoclouds Slicast tracks, IREN ranks third in absolute capex, behind CoreWeave, and fourth by intensity, with Nebius leading that metric. The largest single quarterly capex figure in IREN's data, $2.13 billion for the period ending September 30, 2026, illustrates the velocity of balance-sheet deployment. FY2026 ended with a net loss of $703 million on that $707 million in revenue — the arithmetic of a company firmly in investment mode. Beyond the U.S. core, IREN is extending its geographic reach: in October it secured a license for a 300 MW AI data center campus in Badajoz, Spain, through a newly formed IREN Europe entity targeting 2028 operations, and separately flagged a proposed 900 MW campus in Wagga Wagga, Australia, targeting 2029 grid connection. A $363 million refinancing of GPU assets with Wingspire Equipment Finance, also completed in October, addressed near-term capital structure needs.

Not all the news surrounding the Q1 print was favorable. Coverage reports that a Microsoft design change delayed IREN's Texas data center delivery, pushing the go-live date for a project tied to a $4 billion annualized recurring revenue goal to January 2027 — a deferral that postpones the most direct validation of the high-end growth case. Sector financing conditions remain acutely stressed: CoreWeave's 2032 bonds were reported trading below 80 cents on the dollar with yields approaching 14.5%, a market signal that capital for leveraged neoclouds carries significant cost and scarcity. IREN's co-CEO offered an October reassurance that the company operates without debt — an unusually explicit public stance whose very necessity reflected investor anxiety. SemiAnalysis, in an October report, flagged issues with IREN's legacy British Columbia data centers, adding a technical credibility challenge alongside the valuation one. Reports from October that IREN had signed a multi-year compute contract with Anthropic remained unconfirmed as of a subsequent report, with the unverified status having contributed to a 5% stock decline at that time. Texas-specific regulatory risk has emerged separately, with analysis suggesting that a potential political shift in the state could threaten a material share of planned U.S. data center power capacity.

Three signals will determine whether November 6's session represents a genuine inflection or a temporary relief rally. The first is the Texas delivery timeline: whether the Microsoft-linked data center reaches operational status in January 2027 as now targeted, and whether the $4 billion ARR goal remains achievable within striking distance of that revised schedule, is the most immediate operational test. The second is gross-margin durability: an 86% AI Cloud segment margin is the cornerstone of the near-term valuation case, and any compression in future quarters — especially as IREN builds capacity in additional geographies such as Spain — would reopen the debate that the Q1 print has temporarily quieted. The third is capital-markets access: given CoreWeave's bond-market signal and the persistent tightening of neocloud financing, IREN's ability to advance the Badajoz and Wagga Wagga pipelines without materially dilutive or distressed-rate raises will determine whether geographic diversification remains financially credible. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives argued that the neocloud sector's sell-off had gone "too far" — a view that IREN's Q1 numbers have so far supported for the company's specific case; Gartner's structural forecast that four in five neoclouds will not survive to 2030 remains unresolved. IREN has moved its own story decisively forward; the broader question of which neoclouds will ultimately build the AI infrastructure layer of the next decade is very much open.
