Artificial intelligence cloud provider CoreWeave is making its first move into India, announcing a partnership with AdaniConneX to build a massive data center footprint near Mumbai. The agreement provides access to 240 megawatts of capacity at the Taloja campus in Navi Mumbai, with an option to expand to 480 megawatts as demand grows. CoreWeave expects to invest several billion dollars over the project's lifecycle, with the first facilities scheduled to come online in mid-2028. The company will also establish a local office in India to support operations.

CoreWeave shares slipped approximately 2% in premarket trading on the announcement, giving back a portion of a 4.95% gain recorded the previous session. The stock has climbed more than 15% so far in 2026, though it has lagged the iShares Future AI & Tech ETF (ARTY), which has surged over 63% during the same period.

The Indian facilities will be equipped with Nvidia Vera Rubin systems, the chipmaker's next-generation platform designed for training and operating large models, handling reasoning functions, and supporting AI agents. CoreWeave has positioned itself as a leading provider of cloud infrastructure purpose-built for AI, with Nvidia as a key technology partner.

The Taloja campus is operated by AdaniConneX, a joint venture between India's Adani Group and US data center specialist EdgeConneX. The company operates more than 1 gigawatt of capacity deployed or under development across India, with projects spanning Chennai, Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, Noida, Pune, and Visakhapatnam. The Navi Mumbai site alone has potential capacity of up to 1 gigawatt.

This India announcement follows CoreWeave's entry into the Asia-Pacific region in August, when the company announced plans for three facilities in Indonesia totaling 360 megawatts of contracted IT power. All three are expected to become operational in 2028. CoreWeave ended the second quarter with 1.5 gigawatts of active power and approximately 3.7 gigawatts under contract. By August 11, that contracted capacity had climbed to approximately 4.2 gigawatts—an increase of roughly 500 megawatts in a matter of weeks. CEO Mike Intrator stated the company is "largely sold out" of capacity, underscoring the urgency behind its global expansion.

India's data center market is drawing significant investment from global technology firms. AdaniConneX is separately involved in a large-scale data center project for Alphabet's Google unit. According to a July report from Wood Mackenzie, India's total data center capacity is projected to grow from 2.2 gigawatts built over three decades to 12 gigawatts by 2030. AI-specific capacity is forecast to increase nearly 24-fold to 6.5 gigawatts over the same period.

For CoreWeave, the Indian commitment represents both a hedge and an opportunity. The company has built its reputation on providing high-performance GPU access to AI startups and enterprises. Expanding into new geographies allows it to serve customers with data residency requirements while tapping into regional demand growth. CoreWeave's ability to secure 240 megawatts at a single campus signals serious intent in the Indian market—power availability has become one of the most critical constraints for AI data center operators, and locking in this level of capacity years in advance establishes a foundation for long-term growth in one of the world's fastest-growing digital economies.

This push comes as competition intensifies among AI cloud providers. Major players including Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and Google are all expanding their AI infrastructure footprints globally, while specialized providers like CoreWeave seek to differentiate through faster deployment and Nvidia-centric architectures.
