AI security and compliance firm Arcee AI has reached a $1 billion valuation following its Series B funding round.
As enterprises and government organizations scale their artificial intelligence initiatives, control over model deployment, customization, and operations has become as critical as raw performance. Arcee AI has secured Series B funding at a valuation exceeding $1 billion to accelerate its open-weight foundation models and the supporting deployment infrastructure. The round was led by Vista Equity Partners, Cambium Capital, and Emergence Capital, with participation from AI10 Ventures, Hitachi, IAG, Microsoft’s M12, P7, and Wipro. Arcee did not disclose the total amount raised.
The San Francisco-based company will deploy the capital toward developing the next generation of its Trinity model family, expanding partnerships with the U.S. Department of Energy and its national laboratories, and building software products for customizing, evaluating, deploying, and operating open models. Arcee specializes in open-weight AI, granting organizations direct access to model parameters and greater oversight of where and how models operate. This enables companies to host models within their own infrastructure, tailor them for specialized applications, and maintain visibility into systems handling sensitive or mission-critical workloads.
This approach contrasts sharply with closed AI services, which typically restrict customers to provider-controlled infrastructure. Arcee is targeting enterprises, developers, research institutions, and government agencies seeking enhanced control over deployment, security, and model economics. “Organizations should not have to choose between the capabilities of a frontier model and the ability to control the technology at the center of their work,” co-founder and CEO Mark McQuade said.
Recent development efforts have centered on Trinity, an open-weight model family comprising Trinity Nano, Trinity Mini, and Trinity Large. Arcee initially leveraged the smaller variants to validate its architecture, training data, and mixture-of-experts methodology before scaling those techniques into its flagship model. Trinity Large is a 400-billion-parameter sparse mixture-of-experts model that activates 13 billion parameters per token. The company noted that it developed its entire 2025 model lineup, including Trinity Large, for approximately $20 million.
This lean cost profile underscores Arcee’s core strategy as AI developers navigate the steep computational demands of training increasingly large foundation models. “Efficiency has shaped every part of how we build,” Chief Technology Officer Lucas Atkins said. He emphasized that the company prioritizes architectural design, data curation, training protocols, and post-training optimization over reliance on expanded computing capacity. The Series B investment will fund further Trinity development, including efforts to distill advancements from larger models into smaller, more efficient variants capable of running across diverse infrastructure environments.
Arcee is also deepening its scientific computing initiatives through a collaboration with the Department of Energy and its 17 national laboratories on Genesis-Science-1, an open model developed under the Genesis Open Models Initiative. Scientific computing represents a natural fit for open-weight architectures, as research institutions frequently require the ability to run AI within internal computing environments, audit model development processes, and tailor systems to specific disciplines or datasets. Arcee plans to allocate a portion of the financing to this partnership while advancing complementary technologies that deliver the transparency and control often absent in closed AI services.
A third investment pillar focuses on the software ecosystem surrounding Arcee’s models. The company intends to develop tools that streamline model customization, evaluation, production deployment, and ongoing operations, addressing the infrastructure challenges organizations face after selecting an open model. Vista Equity Partners Senior Managing Director Monti Saroya said Arcee’s combination of technical execution and capital efficiency helped distinguish the company as enterprises seek AI systems they can control and customize.
To support increased model development and enterprise deployments, Arcee will expand its research, engineering, and product teams. The new financing elevates Arcee to unicorn status while positioning it within an increasingly competitive AI infrastructure landscape. Rather than relying exclusively on scale, the company’s strategy integrates open model weights, highly efficient training methodologies, and enterprise-grade deployment tools to make self-hosted, customizable AI practical for organizations managing sensitive, specialized, and large-scale workloads.
