슈퍼마이크로의 전직 외주 계약자가 엔비디아 칩이 탑재된 AI 서버를 중국으로 우회 반출한 25억 달러 규모의 중국 서버 사건과 관련해 유죄를 인정했다.
Ting-Wei "Willy" Sun, a former Super Micro Computer contractor, pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court in a case involving the alleged rerouting of about $2.5 billion in AI servers to China. The case underscores the expanding export-control risks surrounding advanced computing infrastructure.
According to the allegations, the servers contained advanced chips made by Nvidia and were moved through companies in Southeast Asia before reaching China. U.S. prosecutors charged Sun in March along with three other people, including Super Micro co-founder Yih-Shyan "Wally" Liaw.
Prosecutors said the group conspired to violate U.S. export-control laws by transferring the servers despite restrictions on the export of advanced AI technology to China. Sun pleaded guilty in the case.
The allegations place AI server distribution at the intersection of U.S.-China technology controls and the broader infrastructure markets that support artificial intelligence and crypto computing.
