Echelon Data Centres is testing grid-protection measures in Ireland to prevent infrastructure strain from its expanding AI campus footprint.

Dublin-based Echelon Data Centres, an operator of hyperscale data centres in Europe, has become the first large energy user in Ireland to test new measures designed to protect the domestic electricity grid from power outages caused by imbalances between demand and generation. Working with EirGrid and suppliers, the company is testing Fault Ride Through (FRT) protocols to protect against the impact of transient network faults. Following a successful live test at its DUB10 campus in Dublin, Echelon is now developing a systematic rollout.
