Nvidia-backed AI cloud provider Lambda is reportedly in talks to raise as much as £2.1 billion ($3 billion), just weeks after closing a separate £678 million ($926 million) debt financing round. Bloomberg reported that the California-based company has received multiple term sheets and is discussing a valuation of £8.7 billion ($12 billion) or higher. The potential fundraising could position Lambda for an initial public offering as soon as next year. While the figures remain prospective and no agreement has been finalised, the discussions underscore the substantial capital still flowing into neocloud infrastructure providers.

The equity talks follow a major debt transaction completed earlier this month. On 12 August, Lambda priced a £678 million ($926 million) senior secured term loan B facility, which the company described as the first investment-grade-rated term loan B financing executed by a private neocloud. According to Lambda, the transaction was meaningfully oversubscribed. The firm stated that the proceeds will fund the expansion of its GPU cloud platform and support committed customer deployments, demonstrating how the company is leveraging multiple capital sources to scale its AI infrastructure.

Lambda operates within the emerging “neocloud” segment of infrastructure providers. Unlike traditional cloud platforms designed for general-purpose workloads, neoclouds specialise in infrastructure optimised for artificial intelligence, with a heavy emphasis on access to high-end graphics processing units (GPUs). This model enables customers to rent GPU capacity for intensive tasks such as model training and inference without purchasing or managing the underlying hardware themselves. For Lambda, this translates to delivering Nvidia GPUs through its dedicated cloud platform.

The reported pre-IPO discussions mark another significant milestone in Lambda’s rapid growth trajectory. In February 2025, the company raised £351 million ($480 million) at a reported valuation of £1.8 billion ($2.5 billion), a round that included Nvidia among its investors. Achieving a valuation of £8.7 billion ($12 billion) or more would represent a substantial increase in less than two years, reflecting sustained investor confidence despite the capital-intensive nature of the sector.

Lambda’s financing activity sits within a broader shift in the AI infrastructure landscape. Neocloud providers now occupy a critical middle ground between semiconductor suppliers, data centre operators, and organisations seeking access to AI compute. By aggregating large pools of GPU capacity into accessible cloud services, these firms allow enterprises to consume advanced compute power without building proprietary infrastructure. Although fast-growing markets carry inherent risks, Lambda’s ability to secure both debt and prospective equity funding demonstrates that lenders and investors continue to back the infrastructure layer bridging AI demand and the hardware required to meet it. The current negotiations remain preliminary, but they signal continued institutional appetite for the specialised compute networks powering the next wave of AI development.
