Google commits as anchor customer for Crusoe's multi-building data center campus in Amarillo, Texas
Google will be the end user of Crusoe's data center campus currently under construction near Amarillo, Texas. Dubbed the Goodnight Campus, the project is located in Claude at 10001 Lima Road in Armstrong County.
Crusoe officially confirmed it is developing the project for Google on September 28. Chase Lochmiller, CEO and co-founder of Crusoe, said: "Building the future of AI requires a new kind of infrastructure, starting with energy. Crusoe's strategy is to build AI factories directly at the source of abundant, low-cost energy – to both improve utilization of existing assets as well as catalyze new energy generation. The Armstrong County campus is a prime example of this energy-first strategy. We're bringing new, affordable clean energy online. We broke ground in June 2025 and are building at the same swift pace we set in Abilene."
The site has a direct connection to Serena's adjacent Goodnight 1 (265.5MW) wind farm, which is operational, and the under-construction Goodnight 2 (265.5MW) wind farm. When the wind farms exceed the needed power output for the campus, excess energy will be injected into the grid.
Crusoe has been developing the site since June 2025. In July of this year, the company filed for two additional buildings at the site, which is ultimately planned to have at least six single-story buildings. Four buildings will span 805,380 sq ft (74,820 sqm) each, while two will total 484,955 sq ft (45,055 sqm) each.
According to Aterio Research, the data center campus will actually feature seven buildings and offer more than 1GW. The first phase will cover four buildings and 530MW, and the second phase will cover three buildings with 500MW of capacity. A total investment of $29 billion is expected. Aterio suggests the project will mirror Crusoe's Abilene campus.
In November 2025, Google said it would be investing some $40 billion in expanding its cloud and AI infrastructure in Texas through 2027, toward its existing data center campuses in Ellis County and three new campuses planned in Armstrong and Haskell Counties.
Google and Crusoe have previously collaborated on Project Tembo, a 2.7GW data center campus near Cheyenne, Wyoming. However, Crusoe stated in June that it had paused work on the site "at the request of our customer." Reports later suggested that the site was instead being developed by Google's subsidiary Jupiter Star Holdings, LLC, replacing Crusoe, though the company has not publicly commented on this.
Elsewhere in Texas, Crusoe is developing a 1.4GW data center campus in Childress and operates the Abilene site used by OpenAI, with further capacity there set to be leased to Microsoft.
Crusoe's cloud business has recently secured AI infrastructure contracts with Perplexity and Thinking Machines. Under its agreement with Perplexity, the company will train its models on Crusoe's dedicated Nvidia GB300 NVL72 clusters and serve them in production through Crusoe's managed inference service. Lochmiller said: "The fastest-moving AI companies need infrastructure that keeps pace across the entire model lifecycle and scales with them as they grow. Perplexity is building the future of how people find answers, and Crusoe is a key partner in making that possible, from the first electron to the last token." The value of the agreement was not disclosed.
With Thinking Machines, Crusoe will provide compute capacity to enable Thinking Machines Lab to power its inference workloads. Using Crusoe Managed Inference, Thinking Machines will access Nvidia HGX B200 systems under a $65 million annual agreement. Myle Ott, ML Infra Lead at Thinking Machines Lab, said: "Crusoe Managed Inference took us from evaluation to production quickly and met the standards we hold our own systems to, giving us the scale and economics to reinvest in the research at the core of what we do." The Thinking Machines deal took Crusoe Managed Inference's ARR to more than $100 million.
