Crusoe is developing a major Google AI data center campus in Armstrong County, Texas, announced on September 28, 2026. The multi-building project broke ground in June 2025 and is currently under construction outside Amarillo at 10001 Lima Road in Claude. The development exemplifies Crusoe's energy-first model for AI infrastructure, built directly adjacent to renewable generation capacity.

The campus comprises multiple data center buildings registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Llano Building 1 is approximately 484,954 square feet with an estimated construction cost of $292 million and an August 2025 start date. Llano Building 2 matches that scope and cost. Llano Building 3 spans approximately 805,380 square feet with an estimated $500 million construction cost. Llano Building 4, also around 805,000 square feet, carries a $500 million estimate and a March 2027 completion target. Buildings 5 and 6 are similarly sized, with Building 6 scheduled for completion in July 2027. Across five identified data center buildings, state filings show at least $2.08 billion in estimated construction costs. The owner of record is GN DC1 LLC, with HKS serving as the design firm on the larger buildings.

The campus connects directly to Serena's operational Goodnight 1 wind farm, which generates 265.5 MW. It will also connect to Goodnight 2, a second 265.5-MW wind project currently under construction that Crusoe's development helped catalyze. The two farms provide a combined 531 MW of renewable generation capacity. Power from the wind projects serves the data center, with surplus generation flowing back to the grid when campus demand is lower—creating a direct relationship between data center buildout and new regional renewable capacity.

Crusoe designed the campus around closed-loop, non-evaporative liquid cooling to significantly limit water consumption. Water use is restricted primarily to domestic requirements such as kitchens. This thermal approach addresses the cooling demands of higher-density AI computing equipment.

More than 5,500 skilled laborers are on site daily. Crusoe is also developing two additional West Texas campuses in Abilene to expand its presence in the region. Google's Energy Impact Fund is separately supporting energy-efficiency upgrades for public buildings and homes in Armstrong County.

Nearby in Carson County, a contrasting approach is taking shape: Fermi's Project Matador combines natural gas generation with solar, nuclear, grid power, and battery storage behind the meter, rather than relying on adjacent renewable sources. Fermi announced on September 28 that it selected NAES to operate and maintain the project's natural gas turbine fleet as Project Matador moves toward first power.
