Core Scientific(CORZ)

On May 6, 2026, at 1:05 PM EDT, Core Scientific (CORZ) stock surged more than 10%, touching a record high above $25 before settling around $24.55 in afternoon trading. The rally followed the company’s announcement that it plans to scale its Muskogee, Oklahoma campus to 1.5 gigawatts of gross power capacity, positioning the project among the largest U.S. data center buildouts. The Austin-based firm, which originally built its reputation in Bitcoin (BTC) mining before pivoting decisively toward AI infrastructure, outlined a multi-phase expansion strategy supported by both acquisitions and organic development.

Central to the plan is the acquisition of Polaris DS LLC, which will immediately add 440 megawatts of operational capacity. Funded through existing liquidity, the transaction is slated to close in the third quarter of 2026. Beyond the acquisition, Core Scientific confirmed that a 70-megawatt facility at the Muskogee site is already constructed and leased to support NVIDIA’s GB300 platform. The installation is undergoing final testing and is projected to become operational in the second quarter of 2026.

Looking ahead, the company has secured approximately 250 acres for future development and is actively evaluating methods to expand its grid power capacity. Construction has also begun on a second data center at the campus, designed to deliver 82.5 megawatts of capacity. While this facility currently lacks a tenant, it is targeted for completion by late 2027.

“As our second expansion applying this approach, we are demonstrating the scalability of our model while growing a strategically important campus to support a broad range of high-density compute deployments,” said CEO Adam Sullivan. A cornerstone of the expansion is the company’s “behind-the-meter” power strategy, which involves generating or sourcing electricity directly on-site rather than relying exclusively on public grid infrastructure. Core Scientific noted that this approach is intended to circumvent the utility connection delays that have recently constrained data center growth in regions such as Virginia and Texas.

Despite its strategic shift toward enterprise and hyperscale AI infrastructure, Core Scientific continues to hold approximately 2,537 BTC on its balance sheet, valued at roughly $207 million based on Bitcoin’s price of $81,600. Over the past 24 hours, Bitcoin edged up 0.6%, retreating slightly after establishing a fresh three-month high above $82,500 earlier in the session. While Bitcoin mining remains an active component of the company’s operations, its capital allocation and development pipeline are increasingly prioritized toward long-term, high-density compute infrastructure.

Market sentiment reflected the positive catalyst, with retail investor chatter on Stocktwits surging from normal to high levels. As of 12:35 p.m. ET on May 6, sentiment around CORZ shifted from bullish to extremely bullish, underscoring strong retail confidence in the company’s AI infrastructure trajectory.
