Shamez Hemani has joined Anthropic as a member of the technical staff. He was among several senior OpenAI data center employees who departed the company in April, initially moving to Meta’s dedicated compute team.

During his nearly two-and-a-half-year tenure at OpenAI, Hemani served on the Stargate compute and infrastructure team, where he helped build gigawatts of compute capacity for the company’s research and product divisions. His departure coincided with a broader organizational reshuffle, during which he left alongside prominent Stargate executive Peter Hoeschele. According to The Information, OpenAI’s Anuj Saharan also joined Meta at the same time.

Meta’s compute unit was established in January, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg pledging to build “tens of gigawatts this decade, and hundreds of gigawatts or more over time.” While Hoeschele remains at the company, Hemani stayed for only five months before departing. “I recently joined the team at Anthropic to work on compute and build an exciting and safe future,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

Anthropic has ramped up its internal data center team over recent months, securing a series of major infrastructure agreements. The company signed a $35bn cloud agreement with Lambda, a $45bn deal with Nscale, and a $19bn agreement with TeraWulf. Additionally, Anthropic formed Theseus Infrastructure with GIC and Macquarie to develop data centers. The company is also currently in talks with Meta to lease compute.
