TAR has raised $120 million in Series A funding at a $1 billion post-money valuation, with the round led by Spark Capital, to expand its off-grid power systems designed for AI data centers.

The Austin-based company plans to use the financing to grow its headquarters, expand its San Francisco engineering office, expand its logistics and manufacturing operations in West Texas, and accelerate power deployments already underway.

TAR addresses the growing electricity requirements of AI infrastructure by building self-contained modular systems that combine renewable power generation and battery storage. These systems operate independently from the electric grid, allowing data center projects to add generation capacity without competing with surrounding communities for grid resources.

The company's strategy centers on controlling the entire project lifecycle rather than relying on multiple outside contractors. TAR manages site selection, detailed engineering and design, procurement, logistics, civil construction, commissioning, and ongoing operations. The company has also developed a purpose-built deployment automation stack designed to install generation capacity more quickly, at larger scale, and with less field labor than conventional construction approaches.

TAR's team includes energy industry veterans from Hut 8, AES, and Vistra, along with robotics engineers who previously worked at Zipline, GrayMatter Robotics, and Lucid Motors.

The company is currently executing a utility-scale deployment with one of the largest neoclouds, developing a dedicated project campus, and completing TAR Terminal One, its manufacturing and logistics center in West Texas. Founded in 2026 by Pat Becker and Leonhard Soenke, TAR is focused on building off-grid power systems for AI data centers at gigawatt scale and is actively hiring across engineering, robotics, power systems, operations, supply chain, and project management.

"To lead the frontier of AI after a lack of investment in the electrical grid for decades requires a complete rethinking of energy deployments," said Pat Becker, co-founder of TAR. "Gigawatt-scale deployments in tight time windows necessitate owning the full stack end-to-end."

"We are excited by the demand from our customers," said Lenny Soenke, co-founder of TAR. "Our focus now is scaling supply to make a real impact on the power shortage stopping the scaling of compute."

"Power is becoming the main bottleneck to scaling compute," said Will Reed, General Partner at Spark Capital. "We will need innovation, unprecedented speed and exceptional companies unblocking it at every level."
