Chip manufacturer AMD has secured a major partnership with Core Scientific, announcing this week a strategic capacity lease agreement for supporting "end customer deployments of AMD AI solutions." AMD will lease more than 500MW initially with the potential to scale to 2.5GW.

The deal comprises 15-year agreements for approximately 530MW of capacity across five sites, representing more than $14 billion in potential base contracted revenue. The capacity is distributed geographically: 185MW in Pecos, Texas; 110MW in Hunt County, Texas; 120MW in Dalton, Georgia; 82MW in Muscogee, Oklahoma; and 32MW in Auburn, Alabama. Rollout begins in H1 2027 at the Pecos and Auburn sites, with full capacity delivery by end of 2028. AMD additionally has expansion rights to lease up to 192MW each in Hunt County and Muscogee.

Under the agreement, Core Scientific and AMD will collaborate on physical infrastructure design and deployment of AMD Instinct GPUs, Epyc CPUs, and ROCm software. AMD will receive market-priced warrants to purchase Core Scientific common stock, with the ability to purchase up to 30 million shares, subject to certain commercial conditions.

Mathew Hein, senior vice president and chief strategy officer of corporate development at AMD, stated: "AI deployments are accelerating rapidly, and bringing that compute online requires trusted infrastructure partners with the scale and power to support the next era of AI. Core Scientific's extensive portfolio of AI-ready data centers expands access to the infrastructure our customers need to deploy AMD AI solutions at scale. Together, we are helping model builders, cloud providers and enterprises accelerate AI adoption while strengthening the AMD ecosystem."

Core Scientific CEO Adam Sullivan added: "We are proud to establish a strategic relationship with AMD and support the continued deployment of its next-generation products. Our proven execution capabilities and ability to deliver high-density infrastructure at scale position us to support AMD's technology roadmap and grow our relationship meaningfully over time."

Separately, AMD is leasing 50MW of capacity from Riot Platforms at its Rockdale, Texas site, which is being repurposed from Bitcoin mining toward GPU hosting. AMD may exercise options to lease up to 200MW total capacity at that location.

Core Scientific reported Q2 2026 results this week, posting total revenues of $164.2 million and a net loss of $1.155 billion, compared to a loss of $347.2 million in Q1. Adjusted EBITDA reached $41.1 million. Capital expenditures surged to $797.4 million in Q2 from $389.2 million in Q1 and $121.3 million in Q2 2025. The company maintains cash and equivalents of $1.819 billion.

Core Scientific reported 395MW in billable megawatts, up from 225MW in Q1, and approximately 1.1GW in total contracted customer capacity, representing more than $24 billion in total contracted revenue. The company, founded in 2017 as a cryptomining data center operator, has since pivoted to AI infrastructure and operates facilities across Alabama, Georgia (two locations), Kentucky, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas (three locations). The firm recently initiated plans for a behind-the-meter solution at its Pecos campus and acquired a former cryptomine in Muskogee. CoreWeave is also a major customer, leasing capacity across Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, and North Carolina.
