Foxconn is exploring a new partnership with OpenAI, building on the companies' prior agreement for data-center racks and AI hardware. The company's chairman, Young Liu, met with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to discuss future collaboration.
Foxconn, a major contract electronics manufacturer and Nvidia's largest AI server maker, is exploring a fresh partnership with leading US artificial intelligence developer OpenAI.
Foxconn Chairman Young Liu met OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman and indicated that an announcement would follow once details are confirmed, according to a report by Reuters.
This potential collaboration would expand on a previous agreement in which the two firms worked together on designing and engineering data-centre racks, components, and other AI hardware.
Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, is increasingly relying on AI infrastructure for its growth. The company expects to maintain double-digit growth next year, dismissing concerns about an AI sector bubble.
**AI Server Manufacturing and Robotics**
Foxconn operates six factory buildings in Houston, Texas, where it manufactures AI servers for Nvidia. The company plans further expansion of these facilities.
Its cloud and networking products segment, which includes AI servers, accounted for 51 per cent of second-quarter revenue. This marked the first time the segment exceeded 50 per cent of total revenue.
Separately, Foxconn is advancing its plans to deploy humanoid robots at its Houston plant. Brand Cheng, chairman of unit Foxconn Industrial Internet (FII), reported that more than 10 humanoid robots are deployed for internal use at its Texas facilities.
FII plans to extend this deployment beyond Texas. The unit is also developing AI models for these humanoid robots, based on Nvidia's GR00T foundation model.
