On September 7, 2026, EdgeConneX announced it has joined the Sustainable Tropical Data Centre Testbed Phase 2.0 (STDCT 2.0) Consortium as its top-tier anchor partner. The partnership strengthens the company’s dedication to sustainable and efficient data center innovation in Singapore, a strategically vital market that hosts its Asia Pacific regional headquarters and supports the nation’s ambition to become a leading hub for next-generation artificial intelligence deployments. EdgeConneX will provide multi-year financial backing for a shared infrastructure pool managed by the program team, alongside direct contributions to curated projects that leverage its global data center expertise, including its Ingenuity high-density solution.

Originally launched in November 2023 at the National University of Singapore’s College of Design and Engineering, the STDCT was established as the first data center testbed in the tropics to boost Singapore’s competitiveness in sustainable infrastructure. Phase 2.0 expands this mission by focusing on AI-ready facilities that integrate advanced liquid cooling and grid-responsive operations to sustainably power ultra-high-density racks. The initiative operates as a technology- and operator-agnostic co-innovation platform that unites academia and industry to evaluate, de-risk, and accelerate the commercial deployment of sustainable solutions tailored to tropical climates.

Thorsten Ziegler, SVP Engineering at EdgeConneX, stated, We see value in programs like STDCT 2.0, which bridge research and deployment by testing physics-informed design and digital twin technologies in live operating environments and translating innovation into practical, scalable solutions. He added that the company is excited to provide multi-year support as AI workloads drive dramatic increases in rack densities, prompting industry-wide redesigns of data center power, cooling, and upgrade strategies. Chi Yee Ling, Vice President of Site Development and Real Estate APAC at EdgeConneX, noted, EdgeConneX has a strong sustainability track record. In Asia Pacific, our facilities use advanced non-evaporative cooling systems, which deliver efficiency to our hyperscale and AI customers, and help preserve community water resources. The collaboration with NUS, and the lessons learned from STDCT 2.0, will benefit our data center designs and operations not only in APAC, but all around the world. Professor Lee Poh Seng, Program Director of STDCT and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NUS CDE, emphasized, As compute demand surges, the strain on digital infrastructure is intensifying. This strain is often felt hardest in tropical regions like Singapore, where high heat and humidity push conventional cooling and operational systems to their limits. EdgeConneX expertise in hyperscale and AI data center deployment will be instrumental in shaping the next phase of research at STDCT. We greatly appreciate the strong support for the program, and we look forward to our future collaborations.

As the lead industry partner, EdgeConneX will co-invest in and help shape the shared research infrastructure while actively participating in collaborative research and development, technology integration, and field validation. The facility will serve as a multi-vendor, real-world testbed featuring modular data center test environments, advanced liquid-cooling and heat-rejection systems, high-resolution instrumentation and telemetry platforms, and an AI-native digital twin for system modeling, optimization, predictive operations, and lifecycle performance assessment. Under the consortium, the National University of Singapore serves as the lead organization responsible for designing, developing, and orchestrating innovations in cooling, power, and heat rejection systems, while managing the testbed, program operations, and industry partnerships.
